The slaughter of the Circle of Nine was a seminal event in the history of Nosgoth, and the first event observed in the narrative of both Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and the Legacy of Kain series as a whole. It was infamously perpetrated in Nosgoth's early history by the vampire Vorador, who infiltrated the Sarafan Stronghold and murdered six members of the Circle in retribution for their sponsorship of the Sarafan Order and the vampire purge. Following their deaths, Vorador was challenged by Malek, whom he easily defeated.
The event was revisited in Soul Reaver 2, which significantly expanded on both Vorador and Malek's motivations, and revealed the involvement of the Sarafan commanders, Moebius and Raziel.
Outline[]
In Nosgoth's early history, Nosgoth's vampire population increased, attracting the attention of the Circle of Nine. The Guardians formed the order of the Sarafan to counter the perceived "vampire menace," and thousands of them were exterminated in the vampire purge. In retaliation, the vampire Vorador took his revenge on the Circle by infiltrating the Sarafan Stronghold and murdering the Guardians of the Mind, Dimension, Nature, Balance, Energy, and States.
Notes[]
The Silicon Knights FAQ States the Vampire Purge (and seemly the Slaughter of the Circle) took place 5000 years before Blood Omen starts.[1] however, later references and timelines place this at 500 years before. It is unknown if this was a mistake on Silicon Knights part, a mistake on Crystal Dynamics part, or a purposeful change.
