Seeking RevengeEdit

Kain KillEdit

A dark, ominous Nosgoth morning, rife with mist and fog. A bracing chill and scathing wind drifts among the darkened forests.
A path wends its way past gnarled trees, which hide more than can be seen.

KAIN
(screaming battlecry)
Vae victis!

For the Blood is the Life...Edit

Amidst the confusion of his battle with the assassins, the player is overtaken by the feral urge to feed. Just before the final blow is struck, the fledgling vampire tears out the throat of his victim.
The image of the flailing hands of the victim appears and the screen fades to black.
Whirling from the darkness, images of the Pillars and degenerate characters appear, shifting and fading. The images of Nupraptor the Mentalist and his mountain retreat are prevalent. A skull carved from the rock of a mountain, peering through the mist...

NupraptorEdit

The Pillars of NosgothEdit

ARIEL
The Circle of Nine draw their powers from the Pillars of Nosgoth. The decay of the Pillars is a manifestation of the deterioration of their minds. To heal the sickness, you must first destroy that which causes the disease.

The Hunt for MalekEdit

Escape from Malek's BastionEdit

The vampire tumbles down a long tortuous dust slide carved from rock. This sequence is a series of images from the vampire's point of view to cuts showing the vampire speeding past the camera.
At the end of the sequence, the vampire tumbles out of the dust chute, onto a thin mountain path. The vampire dusts himself off and walks down the path. It is a misty morning, and there is a long walk ahead...

Visual: oh yeah, Malek's keep blows up...

Threaten the CircleEdit

ANARCROTHE
Fools!

The Objects Returned, Are Powers RestoredEdit

Kain rediscovers Ariel while he is returning Circle tokens to the Pillars.

ARIEL
So, you have returned vampire? I see that you have taken your quest to heart.

KAIN
Not for Nosgoth's sake, shade, for my own. It is the only way I can be rid of my curse.

ARIEL
Then you should beware. The Legions of the Nemesis are on the march from the north, crushing all in their path. Weirstein and the Stahlberg have already fallen, Willendorf will be sure to follow... They must be stopped or all shall be lost...

KAIN
How can one stop an army?

ARIEL
You must unite the armies of Willendorf; they are the last Hope of Nosgoth. If not, all is lost...

Fade to black.

The Vampire PurgesEdit

To the EndEdit

TermsEdit

Blood fountainsEdit

Character: ArielEdit

[A line from the NPC recording script. Probably cut from events between Kain's journey to find the Oracle, and then to find Vorador:]
Ariel: Mind the Oracle's words.

Character: IrmokEdit

[A line, probably a cut follow-up to Irmok's only line in the final game:]
Irmok: Kill me now or leave me be – let destiny take its course...

Character: KainEdit

[A line, probably intended for the aftermath of Kain's revenge battle with his assassins:]
Kain (V. O.): As the last of the brigands fell, I leapt upon him, ripping his throat with my teeth and drank of the hot blood that gushed forth. As the torrent of blood ended, his body collapsed to the floor. I was forever changed... I knew what I had become.
[A line, possibly intended to be played on the approach to the Pillars:]
Kain (V. O.): The Pillars seemed darker now, less real.
[A line intended to be played upon returning Moebius's Hourglass to the Pillars. The Hourglass is the sole Pillar token whose return is not commented upon by Kain in the final game:]
Kain (V. O.): I placed the Hourglass of Moebius before the Pillar of Time.
[A line, probably intended to be played upon entering Avernus:]
Kain (V. O.): The city was deserted, save for an ominous silence.
[A line, probably intended for the encounters with Malek's warriors in Malek's Bastion:]
Kain (V. O.): Animate suits of Sarafan armor were all they were, spirits bound to metal and leather, clumsily going through the motions they were taught in life.
[Lines, probably intended for the encounters with the Oracle of Nosgoth/Moebius:]
Kain (V. O.): The old man looked more suited to the role of beggar than sage. How could this fossil be the revered Oracle of Nosgoth, trusted by kings and conquerors alike? Yet sometimes it takes a fool to be a wise man.
Kain (V. O.): The toothless old man sat stirring his meager broth. How could this flatulent old fool be the advisor to kings and conquerors, the lauded Oracle of Nosgoth?
[A line, probably intended for the aftermath of the Oracle's Cave events:]
Kain (V. O.): 'Twould seem that I must venture south to the Termogent Forest, to seek this Vorador.
[A line, probably intended for the aftermath of the Vorador's Mansion chess match sequence:]
Kain (V. O.): Vorador enjoyed his game. I was but a fledgling vampire to him – a child to be coaxed and baited. Vorador bore no ill towards his own kind, so long as I knew my place, he said, I would be safe.
[Unused reaction for the first event where Kain is poisoned. First version is shorter (from the PlayStation files), second is uncut (from the Microsoft Windows files):]
Kain (V. O.): Poison! The pain began to ebb, but I could still feel it gnawing at my body, and would for a time to come...
Kain (V. O.): Poison! Their blood was as tainted as their flesh. The pain began to ebb, but I could still feel it gnawing at my body, and would for a time to come...
[A line, probably intended for the scene where Kain first meets Anarcrothe, Bane, and DeJoule at Dark Eden:]
Kain (V. O.): I longed to do battle with the Ward once more, yet the numbers were against me. It was time to summon aid.
[A line, probably intended for the aftermath of Kain's first encounter with King Ottmar:]
Kain (V. O.): Willendorf's famed warrior elite, now reduced to nothing more than a search party, hunted south of the city for the Dollmaker's abode.
[A line, probably intended for the encounters with Elzevir's animated toys:]
Kain (V. O.): I thought their cloth arms could do no damage, 'til the magic that infused them ate into my flesh. It was as if the burlap was metal, and cut just as well, yet when I struck back the material yielded and folded around my blade. I had to find another way to destroy these things.
[A line whose context is unclear, but which was probably intended to accompany a puzzle encountered during Kain's search for Elzevir:]
Kain (V. O.): It looked like some sort of locking mechanism. The intricacies of its workings led down into the ground, and away from that chamber.
[Unused, alternate take on Kain's battle cry. Probably intended for use only at the Battle of the Last Stand:]
Kain: Vae victis!
[Lines, probably intended for the concluding moments of the Battle of the Last Stand:]
Kain (V. O.): The forces of the Horde would soon reach me. Of the artifacts I possessed, there was one which may provide escape.
Kain (V. O.): My fingers once more caressed the Time Streaming Device, and my body shifted along the stream of time.
[A line, probably intended for the aftermath of the boss battle with Mortanius:]
Kain (V. O.): Through the twisted plots and tangled schemes, truth emerged. I had thought myself manipulated by Moebius, yet it seemed the strings were held by another, more powerful puppeteer – my murder and my resurrection both arranged by Mortanius. The Necromancer had promised me vengeance. He had fulfilled his vow, at the cost of his own life.
[A line, probably intended for Kain's first entry to a human dwelling as a vampire:]
Kain (V. O.): The dwellings of the living are important to the vampire, of course, but one must be wary of how they are defended. The living can be ferocious fighters when they have need to be.
[A line, probably intended for Kain's Mausoleum, perhaps for a cut gameplay mechanic enabling Kain to rest and recuperate:]
Kain (V. O.): The grave gives shelter to a weary vampire. Within the shadows of this tomb, I may rest.
[A line whose context is unclear, but which was possibly intended to be played within Vorador's Mansion:]
Kain (V. O.): It is odd to read the ancient tongue after so many years. "Fatum Iustum Stultorum" – how apt.
[A line, probably intended for the aftermath of Vorador's Mansion:]
Kain (V. O.): And so I left, with the knowledge that Malek could be defeated – and with an ally. The only question was, with the bastion empty and vacant, where was Malek? I would again return to Ariel for an answer.
[Lines, possibly intended to be played when Kain's blood meter is low:]
Kain (V. O.): The longing I felt threatened to consume me. I ached and I hungered – but for what? And in that instant, sharp and sweet, came the call of blood.
Kain (V. O.): Revulsion fought with rapture, and yet beneath the horror lay desire. Hunger, insistent and urgent, relentlessly demanding more. For the blood is the life.
[A line, probably intended for the aftermath of the boss battle with Malek:]
Kain (V. O.): Frustration triumphed over honor, and the Sarafan unleashed his hatred upon me with a seething wall of destruction. It consumed his prison brick by brick, shattering columns and bringing the roof down upon us both.
[A line, probably intended to be played on the approach to Avernus:]
Kain (V. O.): The hell that raged on within the walls of Avernus had barred me entry. Fire and catastrophe were the city's guards. Perhaps Ariel had the key to those gates.
[A line, probably intended for preamble to the boss battle with Azimuth. First version is uncut (from the PlayStation files), second is shorter (from the Microsoft Windows files):]
Kain (V. O.): The Matriarch of Avernus – the Lady Azimuth – led an army of demons to ravage Nosgoth and let it fester with fire. Her magical planing skills summoned demons through runes inscribed in human blood.
Kain (V. O.): The Matriarch of Avernus – the Lady Azimuth. Her magical planing skills summoned demons through runes inscribed in human blood.
[A line, probably intended for the aftermath of the boss battle with Azimuth:]
Kain (V. O.): With the Matriarch dead, and her eye in my possession, I saw fit to return to the Pillars, and correct her corruption.
[A line, probably intended to accompany the event where Kain eavesdrops on William and Moebius. First version is shorter (from the PlayStation files), second is uncut (from the Microsoft Windows files):]
Kain (V. O.): So, Moebius was scheming to corrupt the leader of this fair land. If I were to kill Moebius, I'd have to visit the king himself – William the Just.
Kain (V. O.): So, Moebius, the defender of the Pillar of Time, was scheming to corrupt the leader of this fair land. If I were to kill Moebius, I'd have to visit the king himself – William the Just.
[A line, probably intended for the preamble to, or aftermath of, the boss battle with William:]
Kain (V. O.): So, the plot was unraveled. Through Moebius's vile corruption of time, the fair king William was granted the power to become the Nemesis, scourge of Nosgoth.
[Unused, alternate reaction for the first event where Kain encounters rain:]
Kain (V. O.): When rainfall comes, vampires are wise to move swiftly to avoid its acidic touch.
[Unused narration naming Kain's three inventory groups:]
Kain: Incantations.
Kain: Artifacts.
Kain: Weapons and Armor.
[Lines, probably alternate vista descriptions for each landmark:]
Kain (V. O.): Nupraptor's Keep lay in the distance. My powers of flight could hasten my journey to his dwelling.
Kain (V. O.): Malek's Bastion perched defiantly on the mountain top, black as night against the blanket of snow. The only recourse I had in reaching his lofty domain was in flight.
[Lines, probably alternate vista descriptions for Dark Eden. First version is shorter (from the PlayStation files), second is uncut (from the Microsoft Windows files):]
Kain (V. O.): Dark Eden lay cradled within the vile dome of energy.
Kain (V. O.): Dark Eden lay cradled within the vile dome of energy. The only entrance lay in flight.
[A line, probably intended for the aftermath of the boss battle with Mortanius:]
Kain (V. O.): And so, Mortanius the Necromancer, a member of the Circle as well. The Pillar of Death, a symbol of his powers and the gift he had seen fit to bestow upon me.
[A line, probably an alternate vista description for the Pillars of Nosgoth:]
Kain (V. O.): From the distance, I could see the Pillars – symbol of the Circle of Nine, proud defenders of Nosgoth. Mortanius had urged me to visit them. Who was I to reject such advice?
[A line, probably an alternate description for the Blood Gout spell:]
Kain (V. O.): When struck, my enemies' blood flows from their bodies to fill me with life. 'Tis a risk, yet the rewards are a temptation.
[A line, probably an alternate description for the DeJoule's Insulating Cloak item:]
Kain (V. O.): The cloak stank of burned air. It was fashioned from an alloy akin to lead, and woven into fine links. The cloak's lining was scorched and melted. It served as an insulator, made to protect DeJoule's colleagues from her deadly radiance, lest it char and burn them to withered, smoldering husks.
[A line, probably an alternate description for the Wraith Armor equipment:]
Kain (V. O.): This armor was spawned in the most impure of spirit forges, tempered from the seething agony of tortured souls. In darkness, its hold is strong, but in light, its power diminishes.
[Unused inventory narration naming Kain's forms:]
Kain: Bat Form.
Kain: Wolf Form.
Kain: Mask of Disguise.
Kain: Mist Form.
Kain: Beguile.
[A line, probably an alternate description for the heart of darkness artifacts:]
Kain (V. O.): I knew of the legend of Janos Audron – a vampire who exists as but a whisper in shadow and night. The hearts of his victims lay scattered through the realm, as a testimony to his hunger. These hearts of darkness restore vampiric unlife.
[Microsoft Windows variations of the cut inventory grouping narration:]
Kain: Incantations.
Kain: Artifacts.
Kain: Armory.

Character: Kain's assassinsEdit

[Lines, all probably cut from either of Kain's confrontations with his assassins:]
Brigand: Get 'em!
Brigand: Quick! He's the one!
Brigand: Just as we were told.
Brigand: We thought you were dead.
Brigand: His face! Gods, what evil has found you?

Character: MoebiusEdit

[A line, probably cut from a preamble to the scene where Vorador is executed by Moebius. This line accompanies Moebius's other dialogue, but is not included in the NPC recording script:]
Moebius: Behold! Vorador!

Character: VoradorEdit

[A very early line of Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain unused dialogue, seen on a concept sketch of Vorador included as bonus material in Legacy of Kain: Defiance:]
Vorador: Did you honestly believe that you were the only vampire in Nosgoth? You are just a minor pawn, whose powers pale in comparison to mine. Oh yes, I am also a vampire. Your greatest flaw, my good fellow, is that you have a soul. You have a conscience that hinders your hunt to survive. I do not have that problem. I kill for fun.
[Lines, all probably cut from the deleted chess match event in Vorador's Mansion:]
Vorador: Call yourself a vampire, do you?
Vorador: I've dined on RATS more dangerous than you!
Vorador: Why pretend, child? Face your fate as a mortal!
Vorador: Aye, you are a great pretender, little one!
Vorador: Oh ho! So there IS fight in you after all! Heh heh.
Hmmm, perhaps there is more to you...
Vorador: You have much to learn Vampire, but you have earned my hospitality. Come! You shall sup at my table this eve!

The Failure of the CircleEdit

[1]

A. CROWLEY OR POSSIBLY MORTANIUS V.O.
There is a magical operation of maximum importance: the initiation of a new aeon. When it becomes necessary to utter a word, the whole planet must be bathed in blood...[1]

Close-up: image of a screaming face, long canine teeth bared, lit in the unholy glow of a distant sunset and burning pyres. The camera zooms out from the face, revealing the owner. We see that the man (a vampire) is being hoisted into the air, impaled on a high wooden stake. As we pull away, we see other vampire corpses impaled, littering the countryside as armored warriors walk amongst them, slaughtering fleeing vampires.

The camera continues to zoom out.

We see the above scene contained within a pool of water, nested in the middle of a large, circular table with Celtic-style knots and arcane symbols carved into it. Around the table are a cluster of wizards/magi, both male and female, young and old. The room is dimly lit, but we can make out what they are wearing. They appear to be watching the events in the magic pool quite intently.

The camera continues to zoom out.

WIZARD
The plague infecting our land is finished!

Pan out, we see Vorador.
A jagged sword rips through one of the wizards.

ANOTHER WIZARD
(amidst bloodcurdling screams)
Malek!

SFX: assorted flesh ripping foley.

And the gutted corpse is thrown sideways.

Vorador appears from behind the falling/thrown corpse, wielding the bloodstained jagged sword. He throws a variety of spells at the nearby wizards.
One is killed by an Energy Bolt.

ANOTHER WIZARD
Malek!

Vorador throws a Flay spell at the Wizard, and we see his flesh blasted from his bloody bones.

VORADOR
(laughing)

Wizard tries to cast a spell, but is panicking.

YET ANOTHER WIZARD
(whimpering)
Malek!

The sound of an approaching man in armor, rushing along stone tiled floors.

VORADOR
(laughing)
Call your dogs!
They can feast on your corpses!

Another is hit by a Blood Gout spell – the projectile hits the victim, forcing a stream of blood to be jettisoned from the body, and it gets "sucked" past the camera.

Cut to Malek rushing in through doorway, ax drawn.
He sees Vorador and swings his ax.

Close-up: Vorador's sword clashes with Malek's serrated ax.

Cut to a dark chamber, lit only by candle flame. Arcane runes and symbols of power are drawn onto the floor. Standing in the center of the chamber a man is stripped naked; scars adorn his body. On the ground before him is an empty suit of armor, propped up on a stand, giving it the impression that it has some form inside it.

MORTANIUS
For failing the Circle, Malek of the Sarafan, you are hereby damned. The pleasures of the flesh are no longer yours.

FX of Malek's spirit being fused into his armor.

MORTANIUS
You have but one purpose, damned warrior; you will serve us for eternity.

Fade to black.

A shadow is cast against a wall, moving slowly, but with purpose. We see Ariel by the wall; she turns and sees a distinctive, but unknown shape silhouetted against a light, raising a cruel knife.

SHADOW (MORTANIUS)
So it begins...

Cut to black.

SFX: Ariel's scream penetrates the darkness.

A Pillar is seen partially collapsing, chunks of it exploding, dust clouds being kicked up from underneath it.

Fade to black.

A sudden flash reveals a marble/stone background.
Blood is splattered on the background: the splatter forms the words "Blood Omen". Small rivulets of blood begin to trickle down the background, as the subtitle "Legacy of Kain" is burned into the stone.

Fade to black – cycle begins again.

ZiegsturhlEdit

A young nobleman stops at a bar to sate his thirst. To his dismay the barkeep is quite reluctant to serve him, noting the time and the looming danger the night brings.

Disheartened, the young nobleman, Kain, resumes his journey.

A dark, ominous Nosgoth morning, rife with mist and fog. A bracing chill and scathing wind drifts among the darkened forests.
A path wends its way past gnarled trees, which hide more than can be seen.

On the streets of the small town of Ziegsturhl the unfortunate Kain is attacked and slain.

Kain in the AbyssEdit

The underworld – populated by lost souls that howl within the abyss. Their shapes twist and writhe in their fiery oblivion. Through this ghostly burning land, the Necromancer Mortanius strides as its master.

Fade from black.

Kain is strung up between two posts, transfixed with a sword. He struggles incessantly, as if trying to deny his fate.

KAIN V.O.
Vae victis – suffering to the conquered. Ironic that now I was the one suffering. Not anything as pedestrian as physical pain. Rather the cruel jab of impotent anger – the hunger for revenge.
I didn't care if I was in Heaven or Hell – all I wanted was to kill my assassins. Sometimes you get what you wish for.
The Necromancer Mortanius offered me a chance for vengeance. And like a fool, I jumped at his offer without considering the cost.
Nothing is free.

Visual: Mortanius grasps the sword and twists it painfully – Kain winces.

KAIN V.O.
(tiredly, with pain)
Not even revenge.

Visual: Kain's bonds are released and he steps free, turning towards Mortanius.

Visual: Mortanius offers the transfixion sword to Kain.

Visual: Kain looks toward the abyss and behind him, staring contemplatively into the yawning fire, then looks toward Mortanius again. He steps forward and grasps the sword.

Visual: corruscating magic ripples across Kain's body, transforming his white armor to black, living skin to dead vampiric flesh.

Visual: Kain's eyes opening.

MORTANIUS
(laughter)
You will have the blood you hunger for...

Visual: Kain walking through fire.

Fire wipe to black.

The Ghost of the PillarsEdit

The Pillars at night; wind blows eerily between the solemn sentinels of marble and other indescribable materials. Moonlight plays on the surfaces, lending the scene an eerie blue cast. The figure of a comely woman appears amidst the Pillars, talking to herself it seems.

Establishing shot from Kain P. O. V.
Long shot of Ariel disappearing behind Pillar.
Camera follows her around the Pillar while she talks.

ARIEL
Nupraptor, your madness has shattered our dreams and blinded you...

KAIN
Keep your distance or I'll send you back to Hell, spirit!

ARIEL
There is nothing left of me to fear vampire. I am only a shadow of my former self... Ariel – the Balance of the Circle of Nine. Even so, I can provide the answers you seek.

KAIN
I seek only a cure.

ARIEL
There is no cure for death. Only release. You must destroy the sorcery that is now poisoning Nosgoth.
Only then will you realize peace.
The Nine of the Protectors of Hope were sworn to use their powers to preserve our world. Now these pillars have been corrupted by a traitor.

Ariel turns toward the camera to reveal her ravaged face. Flesh has been ripped away to reveal the naked bone beneath.

ARIEL
My murder at the hands of this beast drove my love Nupraptor mad.
Now he spreads misery and pain among the Circle, crumbling the very foundation of Nosgoth. You must restore balance. You must right the Pillars of Nosgoth.

A "hallucination" of Nupraptor sewing his eyes shut floats, semi-transparent in the moonlit air.

KAIN
(with distaste)

I care not for the fate of this world.

ARIEL
(fading out)
Then for yourself Kain...
Beware the Unspoken...

Ariel fades to total transparency as her voice fades.
