The barkeep was the owner of a tavern in the village of Ziegsturhl which Kain visited before his death. He appeared in Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain.

Profile

Template:Qlisten

On his search for gold and glory in the hinterlands of Nosgoth, the human Kain stopped at a bar in Ziegsturhl to sate his thirst. To his dismay, the barkeep was quite reluctant to serve the nobleman, noting the time and the looming danger the night brought, and sent him on his way. Disheartened, Kain resumed his journey, but was attacked on the streets and slain.

Kain could encounter the barkeep once more as he returned to the village as a vampire. It was left to his discretion whether to revisit the tavern and take revenge. The barkeep would attack him if approached. In a sinister turn, Kain could also trigger a switch behind the bar to uncover a secret back door to the Flay Spirit Forge.[1]

Later, Kain learned that his murder had been orchestrated by Mortanius. His assassins – and, perhaps, the barkeep – were the instruments of the Necromancer.

Development

The barkeep's voice actors are uncredited.

Notes

  • When Kain returns to Ziegsturhl as a vampire, he cannot take revenge on the barkeep by ordinary methods, as he is protected by his bar. However, it is possible to kill him with Flay artifacts, and, a short while later, Kain gains the Wolf Form ability to leap over bars. Both Silicon Knights' The Complete Guide To Legacy of Kain and Crystal Dynamics' 100 Kain Secrets by Lusiphur Thantos Miley III encourage players to use the Control Mind spell on the barkeep and take him to the Flay Spirit Forge, where he can be sacrificed in exchange for 99 flay artifacts.[1][2]
  • If spoken to in Disguise Form, the barkeep delivers the generic line "hail stranger! What can I get thee today?" in a different voice to the one from the intro sequence.
