Laborers were a group of human enemies that appeared in Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain that were defined largely by their occupation and activities. Each represented a common 'labouring' occupation and each was armed with weapons typical of that occupation which they used to attack. They were generally encountered in locations consistent with their occupation.
Profile[]
Laborers were - broadly speaking - any one of a number of enemy classes which could be identified by their apparent manual labour occupations, which largely defined the classes. The classes could be found alongside human settlement and were generally found in areas associated with their occupation. Three labouring occupations could be seen: Apparent Farmers armed with scythes, apparent gravediggers armed with shovels and apparent miners armed with pickaxes.[Blood Omen][Blood Omen strategy guide][1]
They were among the first human enemies encountered by Kain after his resurrection as a vampire in Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain as he was attacked by gravediggers as he left his mausoleum and into the Cemetery areas. As he progressed into areas of human settlement he would encounter more of the gravediggers along with a the second variant - the farmers. Both of which were fairly low level enemies. The final variant - the miners - were encountered much later in the story and presented more of a challenge. The Laborer classes were not given any further comment and were not seen in further games.[Blood Omen][Blood Omen strategy guide][1]
Classes[]
char0016 (Farmer)[]
Farmers were a class of laborers encountered as enemies in Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and appearing solely in that game. They appeared as slender humans dressed in mustard-brown rags with a light purple balaclava hood. They were distinctively armed with a long scythe which they used as a weapon, swinging it in a wide arc. The Scythe itself suggested an occupational background in agriculture harvesting crops.[Blood Omen][Blood Omen strategy guide][1]
The class were among the weaker enemies encountered by Kain with modest health (6 points) and attack power (6 points) They were found in the interiors of Nachtholm and Vasserbünde, in Vorador's Mansion, and among the crowd initially fought in Moebius's boss battle.[Blood Omen][Blood Omen strategy guide][1]
char0182 (Gravedigger)[]
Gravediggers were a class of laborers encountered as enemies in Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and appearing solely in that game. They appeared as slender humans dressed in brown-grey rags with a dark purple balaclava hood. As with other laborers, their locations and choice of equipment suggested they were involved in undertaking and gravedigging.[Blood Omen][Blood Omen strategy guide][1]
The class were among the weaker enemies encountered by Kain with low health (5 points) and attack power (5 points). They were found around the Cemetery, in Kain's Mausoleum and the second crypt, on the shores at the HMCS Bitter scene, in the interiors of Nachtholm and in the Provincial Mines.[Blood Omen][Blood Omen strategy guide][1]
char0183 (Miner)[]
Miners were a class of laborers encountered as enemies in Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and appearing solely in that game. They appeared as bald slender humans dressed in black rags and carrying a long shovel. They would use their shovels as a weapon and would attack with an overhead swing. They were distinctively armed with a long pickaxe which they used as a weapon, swinging it in a wide arc. The pickaxe itself suggested an occupational background in mining and tunnelling - as did their positioning in underground locations.[Blood Omen][Blood Omen strategy guide][1]
The class were moderately powerful with medium health for a human (16 points) and attack power (10 points). They were found on the shores at the HMCS Bitter scene, in the Mist Form Dungeon and in the Provincial Mines.[Blood Omen][Blood Omen strategy guide][1]
Notes[]
- The term "gravedigger" originates in the Blood Omen official strategy guide[Blood Omen strategy guide]; developer assisted magazine previews also offers "undertaker" as an equivalent.[2]. Internal classifications call the farmer "Farmer". The other terms are suggested by the Blood Omnicide enemy guide.[1] Other fan guides suggest terms such as "graveyard keeper" or "undertaker" for the gravedigger and "farmhand" for the farmer.[3][4] The term 'Laborer' is conjecture based upon the apparent occupations of these classes.
- In game files the various laborer classes are referred to by the character codes "char0016" (Farmers), "char0182" (Gravediggers) and "char0183" (Miners).[Blood Omen]
- The Laborers are not the only Blood Omen enemy class based upon occupation. Shopkeepers, similarly appeared to represent three classes that owned retail outlets such as a barkeepers, blacksmiths and butchers.[Blood Omen]
