The Death Guardian was the individual born to represent, serve, and protect the Pillar of Death, one of the Pillars of Nosgoth. All Guardians belonged to the oligarchy of sorcerers known as the Circle of Nine.

The role as Guardian of Death gives the Guardian skills related to afterlife such as necromancy, summon undead creatures. It also gives the guardian the ability to manipulate the soul of creatures, allowing him to remove or seal souls with spells.
