- "The energy bolt employs magical force in its rawest form... a messy spell, but a potent one nonetheless."
- ―Kain — Listen (file info)
The Energy Bolt was a spell acquired and used by Kain during the events of Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain. It was found inside a shrine to the south of Nachtholm. This spell allowed Kain to throw an energy projectile against his enemies in a straight-line course. The projectile could be used to activate switches located in unreachable places and was quite deadly against early enemies, easily blowing up their bodies into pieces. In later stages of the game, the spell's offensive power becomes ineffective against the more resilient enemies, taking up to six or more shots to kill. Also all of the game bosses, excepting DeJoule, are completely immune to this spell.
Like many of Kain's Blood Omen spells, the Energy Bolt is not seen in further games.
Notes[edit | edit source]
Energy Bolt was the first 'telekinetic' spell used in the series and though further games do not use the Energy Bolt spell, several similar 'telekinetic' abilities would be seen throughout the rest of the series; these abilities (telekinetic force projectiles used by Raziel in Soul Reaver and its sequel, telekinesis used by Kain in Blood Omen 2 and telekinesis employed as a standard combat ability by both characters in Legacy of Kain: Defiance) allowed the protagonist to attack their enemies from the distance and were pivotal for solving certain puzzles.
