The Catatonic Servant Girl was one of Nupraptor the Mentalist's serving girls. Kain encountered her, a chained prisoner, while negotiating Nupraptor's Retreat. She appeared in Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain.

Profile[]

"I came upon one of Nupraptor's serving girls, catatonic with fear, choking out half-words through bloodied, broken teeth. Although tempted by hunger, I stayed my hand, allowing her to tell her story...
She spoke of her Lord Nupraptor, driven to insanity by the brutal slaying of his beloved Ariel. She spoke of his self-mutilation, sewing his eyes and lips shut to deny the outside world. Fueled by despair and hopelessness, he turned his magic on the Circle, infecting their minds with his madness. Nupraptor cared for nothing now, save his pathetic self-pity.
Scars such as hers would never heal. Death would only be a mercy."

On his hunt for Nupraptor, Kain traveled to the town of Vasserbünde, where the villagers spoke of the Mentalist's servants: "one day, one escaped the keep and stumbled into our village. Mad, he was! And his skin and hair, white as a sheet! Scared out of his wits!"[Blood Omen/Miscellaneous]

Kain came upon another of the servants, the Catatonic Servant Girl, chained to the wall of an antechamber in the Retreat, "catatonic with fear," and disfigured, with "bloodied, broken teeth." He allowed her to tell more of the Mentalist's madness.[Blood Omen/3] She explained that Nupraptor "locked himself away" and "tried to kill [them] all," "mad over his love," Ariel.[Blood Omen/Miscellaneous] He committed self-mutilation, "sewing his eyes and lips shut to deny the outside world," and "turned his magic on the Circle [of Nine], infecting their minds with his madness."[Blood Omen/3]

Kain concluded that Nupraptor "cared for nothing now, save his pathetic self-pity," and that the Catatonic Servant Girl's scars would never heal. He could choose to drink her blood in a supposed mercy killing, or depart and leave her to her fate.[Blood Omen/3]

Behind the scenes[]

The Catatonic Servant Girl's name derives from Blood Omen's NPC Recording Script by Ken McCulloch, Seth Carus, and Sheatiel Sarao, released by Ben Lincoln of The Lost Worlds in 2012. She and Lupo the Butcher are the only singular characters in its list of "Minor Players."[1]

The Catatonic Servant Girl's voice actor is uncredited.[Blood Omen]

Notes[]

  • The Catatonic Servant Girl is the only chained prisoner in Blood Omen whom Kain can interact with in Disguise Form. The player's ability to talk to her is apparently lesser known in the Legacy of Kain community – her dialogue is not included in the transcript at Nosgothic Realm, and is discounted as cut content at Dark Chronicle.[2][3]
