Blood chalices, also known simply as Chalices were a set of identical puzzle objects obtained and used by Raziel in the puzzle to ascend Janos Audron's Retreat in Soul Reaver 2.

Profile

The Blood Chalices were a set of items that were crucial to solving the puzzle inside the inner sanctum of Janos Audron's Retreat and ascending to Janos's chamber in Soul Reaver 2.^{[Soul Reaver 2]}

The Blood Chalices themselves were blue, white and golden goblet-like containers with two handles that were marked with arcane symbols. Once gained they significantly limited Raziel's abilities - preventing him from Climbing, Gliding, entering Combat, manipulating objects or Devouring Souls. Raziel first encountered a Blood chalice shortly after entering the ground floor of Janos's retreat. As he entered the chamber, a Blood-filled basin was apparent in the center of the room, along with an empty Blood chalice on a small pedestal. Clearing the chamber of its hazards, Raziel was able to fill the chalice from the basin and move up to a higher level, where he poured the contents into a second empty basin, marked with arcane symbols. When this basin was filled it created a Bloodstone bridge which allowed Raziel to ascend to reach the inner sanctum of Janos's retreat. In the Inner Sanctum, Raziel would use Blood chalices on four occasions. With each, he found a full Blood basin and transported its contents using a chalice to an identified empty basin, spawning a Bloodstone bridge and enabling Raziel to ascend further, until he reached Janos's chamber.^{[Soul Reaver 2][Soul Reaver 2/8][Soul Reaver 2 strategy guide (Prima)]}

Notes

• Chalices are not named in-game, but they are referred to as such in the Prima Guide.^{[Soul Reaver 2 strategy guide (Prima)]} Within game files, they are referred to as "bludurn"; with the stands they are found on labelled as "bludstnd".^{[Soul Reaver 2]}
• Both the Blood chalices and their stands bear a subtle Fire symbol, which is found on the top of the stand or inside and on the base of the chalice itself. Blood basins also bear subtle fire symbols.^{[Soul Reaver 2]}
